          Take-Away Points of the Presentation

          1. IBD is a chronic immunologically mediated disease with increasing incidence globally that results from underlying genetic predisposition of the host modified by exposure to environmental factors (diet, antibiotics, stress, smoking, infections etc.).

          2. New treatment targeting specific molecules in the inflammatory cascade markedly reduced need for glucocorticosteroids and can change disease course for many of the patients, thus it should be utilized early. Risks associated with these medications are related to increased susceptibility to infection. Appropriate vaccinations can help prevent them.
