      Take-Away Points of the Presentation

      1)      The presence of a paradoxical pulse, defined as >12 mm Hg decrease in systolic pressure upon inspiration is the most helpful clinical test for cardiac tamponade.

      2)      Common findings to look for on the reports from a transthoracic echocardiogram that illustrate early signs of cardiac tamponade.

      3)      Etiology and treatment of pericardial effusion and tamponade and complications in both the community and tertiary care setting.
