      Take-Away Points of the Presentation

.) In patients with severe sepsis/septic shock, prevalence of acute kidney injury (AKI) is 41.4%. AKI represents a significant independent risk factor for mortality in these patients.

.) There is no difference in mortality rates in patients who undergo intensive renal replacement therapy (RRT) versus patients who undergo conventional RRT.

.) When a patient undergoes dialysis, the effluent rate needs to be determined to make sure that the patient is not underdosed.

.) Researchers need to discover biomarkers that indicate acute kidney injury.
