Moles and Melanoma: What You Need to Know

      

    Objectives of the Presentation

    Participants should be able to:

    • Describe the difference between common moles and atypical moles and risks for melanoma associated with them.
    • Identify melanoma risk factors.
    • Understand the mechanism of new melanoma therapies recently approved by the FDA.

          Take-Away Points of the Presentation

          1. Look for an "ugly duckling" on the skin when looking for skin cancers--any lesion that does not look like the other lesions on the skin.

          2. New melanoma therapies, in particular, immunomodulating agents, are showing promise in advanced melanoma management. However, early detection is still important for good prognosis for melanoma patients.
