Take-Away Points of the Lecture
1. TPOAb measurement should be considered in order to identify autoimmune thyroiditis when "nodular" thyroid disease is suspected to be due to autoimmune thyroid disease.
2. In pregnancy, the measurement of total T4 or a free thyroxine index (FTI), in addition to TSH, shoud be done to assess thyroid status.
3. Patients with hypothyroidism should be treated with L-thyroxine monotherapy.
